Pizza for Life Offer Cinches Home Sale
In Portland, Oregon’s competitive housing market one buyer grew tired of losing out in bidding wars, reports Reuters, so she decided to do something to make her offer stand out. The buyer half-jokingly offered the sellers a monthly pizza for life if they would accept her offer. She got the house.
Pizza offer beat out competition
The buyer, Donna DiNicola, happened to be the owner of DiNicola’s Italian Restaurant in southeast Portland, which made her offer of pizza for life possible. “It was really a joke,” DiNicola said. “I swear to you I did not know that made it into the paperwork.”
DiNicola reportedly made an offer of $275,000 — her budget limit for buying a home — along with a monthly pizza for life and an offer of two months’ free rent for the sellers of the 900 square-foot home.
Back rent offer “unheard of”
“Donna’s offer was just so compelling and the fact that she offered 60 days of rent back for free, which is practically unheard of,” home seller Holly Marsh told reporters. “And then the pizza part was just hilarious. It just goes to show they really did something to stand out among the offers.”
“Exploding” market in Portland
Reuters notes that the housing market in Portland is “exploding” with an influx of transplants from across the country, due to the city’s rankings on desirable top ten lists and media exposure like the show Portlandia. Some homes are reportedly getting dozens of offers.
DiNicola told reporters “I thought, well time is ticking and we need to get into this market.” She bought the home for her adult sons to live in and said that she and her sons knew it was the “perfect” home as soon as they walked in.Posted on: Wednesday, June 17, 2015
