It’s a great time to be an appraiser; just ask any of the folks who attended the recent Appraisal Summit and Expo at Bally’s Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, September 12th to the 14th.
Appraisal industry professionals from throughout the country gathered, to learn, share, support and celebrate the increasingly promising future for the profession of new and apprenticing appraisers.
This is the eighth year of the Appraisal Summit and Expo, which has evolved into a must-go event for connecting with industry insiders, political advisors, service providers and other fellow appraisers.
This year, about 350 attendees participated, including appraisers, regulators, appraisal managers and others interested in the future of appraisers and technology. They took part in sessions that counted toward continuing education credits, engaged in discussions over legislative activities at the state and national level, and shared insights on how to stay competitive in the new post-Dodd-Frank environment.
For TSI Appraisal, who had a booth at the Expo, the show provided a chance for its directors and leaders to meet up and powwow with some of the many appraisers that make up the TSI Appraisal network, as well as talk to many others looking to join the team.
“The highlight for me was having appraisers walk up looking to join our fee panel because of the great things they heard,” said Akaida Fletcher, Appraisal Partner Management Team Leader. “And the appraisers that are already working with us say they love us because of our great fees and turn time, the steady order volume, the level of communication and the people. It’s a great sense of validation to hear our people say we’re helping them be successful.”
Skilled appraisers are currently highly sought-after professionals, and the demand shows no signs of slowing down. In states such as Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Ohio, Oregon, Texas and Washington, TSI Appraisal is actively recruiting independent contractors as well as staff appraisers.
While some appraisers are happy working for TSI Appraisal’s fee panel, more and more are opting to join the company as staff appraisers, which combines the best of both worlds—the benefits and security of being staff with the flexibility of an independent contractor. Another area of buzz in the crowd was the topic of technological advancements that are helping to streamline processes and move the industry forward. As the 300-plus in attendance at this year’s show discovered, this is an exciting time in the appraisal industry, and now more than ever seems to be the magic hour for the professionals that make up the field.
