Retail Development & Law Symposium

ICSC: Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan & Pennsylvania

What are Cleveland team members Dave Allen, Jeff Kaplan and Joanie Zimmer doing in Columbus? They are attending the International Council of Shopping Centers’ Midwest Symposium (ICSC) on March 2nd and 3rd.

ICSC unites professionals in the legal and business aspects of the shopping center industry. We’re kicking off the conference with a mix and mingle event sponsored by Title Source National Commercial. Friday will provide numerous breakout sessions that provide continuing legal education and real estate credits.

Experts in the fields of shopping center leasing, financing, due diligence in shopping center acquisition, and tax concerns/assessments, will discuss trends, practice tips, statutes and legislation. Real estate professionals and lawyers throughout the Midwest are expected to attend the event. Joanie Zimmer, Vice President of Commercial Counsel, attends every year. “It’s a great networking event and an opportunity to connect with industry colleagues,” said Zimmer. “The topics discussed are more advanced for the seasoned practitioner, and that’s what makes this so appealing. There’s something for everyone.”

Wondering why the symposium is specific to these states? “They like to have a Midwest symposium to connect the Midwestern states and make it easier for the real estate professionals residing in the area to attend,” Zimmer said.

Events for these real estate professionals included a wide range of topics covering specialty-leasing, issues with ground leases, negotiating tools, eco-friendly initiatives in shopping centers, the integration of social media in the retail world and cyber security.

The two-day event focuses on the needs of financial, legal, leasing and real estate professionals co-existing in the realm of shopping center developers, owners, lenders, retail tenants, leasing agents and managers. It will be a unique networking experience for all.
