Joanie Zimmer from Title Source’s Cleveland office attended the 3-day Commercial Real Estate Women’s (CREW) 2017 National Convention in Houston, Texas, this past October. The event was filled with plenty of networking opportunities, learning excursions and a strong lineup of sessions to expand attendees’ knowledge and exposure to various aspects of commercial real estate.
Vendors from across the United States and Canada participated in a lively marketplace event that allowed members to learn about resources available to help them in their various real estate roles. Travis Bradberry, award-winning coauthor of Emotional Intelligence 2.0 spoke at the morning general session on the first day. He discussed intentional and unintentional communication, and taking ownership of how you contribute to the discussions and reactions that you solicit from others. The Convention also hosted Ashwin Karuhatty, Business Development Lead for Amazon Alexa. He collaborated with a few real estate industry leaders as to how voice recognition and voice technology will affect our lives.
The highlight of the convention was the amazing opportunity to hear Academy Award, Oscar, and Golden Globe winner Geena Davis. She is Founder and Chair of the non-profit Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, which engages film and television creators to dramatically increase the percentages of female characters – and reduce gender stereotyping – in media for children 11 and under. She provided great insight and thought-provoking discussion on how both men and women can shape the current and future professional environments, so that everyone can grow in their careers and accomplish professional development regardless of gender.
